ASMP Dallas is proud to present four talented and accomplished professional photographers at the event North Texas Women in Photography. Each photographer will show and discuss their work in their distinctive fields. Please join us for an evening of images, info and discussion. The evening will be moderated by Betsy Lewis, Associate Producer of KERA’s Thinkand Anything You Ever Wanted to Know.

Kathy Ryan is currently the photo editor of the New York Times Magazine and recently served as Guest Curator for the Museum of the City of New York's exhibition Dutch Seen: New York Rediscovered (June 10, 2009 - September 13,  2009). She is also the recipient of many awards including a lifetime achievement award from the Griffin Museum, editor of the year award at the VISA Pour L'Image photojournalism festival, and the Lucie Award for Picture Editor of the Year.

Lynsey Addario is a photojournalist based in New Delhi, India, where she photographs for publications such as the New York Times and National Geographic. Among her many distinctions, Lynsey was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship as well as the Pulitzer Prize in 2009, for her photographs in ‘Talibanistan.' She also won the Getty Images Grant for Editorial Photography in 2008 for her work in Darfur and was named a Fellow at the Columbia College of Women in the Arts in Chicago.

Damon Winter is a photographer for the New York Times and his work has also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Newsweek, and many other publications. He was awarded the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography and has also won awards from World Press Photo, Picture of the Year, Society of News Design, NPPA Best of Photojournalism, APME, and was named the NPPA Region 8 Photographer of the Year in 2002 and the California Press Photographer of the Year in 2006.

The Museum of the City of New York is located at Fifth Avenue and 103rd Street.By bus: M1, M3, M4 or M106 to 104th Street, M2 to 101st Street.By subway: #6 Lexington Avenue train to 103rd Street, walk three blocks west. #2 or #3 train to Central Park North (110th Street), walk one block east to Fifth Avenue, then south to 104th Street. Ramp access is available at the 104th Street entrance.

Facebook status sparks discussion.

"MoMA's Fourth and Fifth floor Lack Women"

Paddy Johnson of Art Fag City combed through a lengthy discussion on art critic, Jerry Saltz's status update on Facebook about the lack of women artists on display in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art. According to Saltz, “Of the 383 works on the 4th & 5th flrs. of MoMA’s perm. coll., only 19 are by women (4%).”

Aperture Panel Discussion with WIPNYC

September promises to be an exciting month with lots of exciting exhibits coming up such as Alessandra Sanguinetti at Yossi Milo, Polixeni Papapetrou at Foley Gallery, Michal Chelbin at Andrea Meislin, a new show at Sasha Wolf Gallery and so many more.
Another exciting event to put on the schedule is an Aperture panel discussion with WIPNYC -- which I just found out about via Amy Elkins blog.

Introduction to Collecting Photo Books- tonight!

Aperture is pleased to announce an enlightening panel discussion dedicated to the first steps and the ins and outs of collecting photography books. The panelists will share thoughts to consider in building a collection and what makes particular books valuable.

The discussion will gather various prominent experts on the subject including the publisher of Aperture’s book program, Lesley Martin, art book dealer Harper Levine of Harper’s Books, and Daile Kaplan, Vice President, Director of Photographs, Swann Galleries Inc.
