Yancey Richardson Gallery is pleased to present Week-end, an exhibition of new work by Alex Prager and the third installment in the photographic trilogy of staged female portraits by the Los Angeles-based artist. Simultaneous with our New York show, Week-end will be shown at the M + B Gallery in Los Angeles; both exhibitions will be accompanied by a catalog. In the project gallery we will feature a selection of prints from Garry Winogrand’s Women are Beautiful portfolio.

During her lecture at B&H, Robin will discuss her project “Amelia’s World: Animal Affinity,” which displays Amelia’s remarkable relationship with animals. This body of work conveys Amelia’s extraordinary comfort level with animals, which they in turn share with her. Robin’s passion for animals and the spiritual connection she gains from photographing them inspired her to explore on a deeper level the real and fictional interspecies relationships, portrayed through portraits of Amelia.

Sophie Calle at Paula Cooper Gallery

French conceptual artist Sophie Calle is also a performance artist of sorts because she takes on different roles, such as working as a maid to photograph strangers' travel possessions and hired a private detective to follow her at her own request. Her latest project, she deals with a lover's breakup via email and uses the traumatic experience to explore issues of intimacy and mass technology. This is Calle's first solo exhibition of "Take Care of Yourself" in America and it's definitely not to miss.

The F.I.T Photography Department Lecture Series presents Nikki S. Lee in their latest "Photo Talks" program.

From the press release:

Nikki S. Lee's most noted work "Projects (1997-2001)" depicts her in snapshot photographs, in which she poses with various ethnic and social groups, including drag queens, punks, swing dancers, senior citizens, Latinos, hip-hop musicians, and Korean school girls. Lee conceives her work as less about creating beautiful pictures, and more about investigating notions of identity and the uses of vernacular photography.
